SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield police are now investigating the city's 10th homicide of the year.
38-year-old John White is the latest homicide victim in the city of Springfield.
Springfield's Melissa Sifuentes told 22News, "Mr. White was a very wonderful man, a wonderful father, a husband, and very polite to everybody in the neighborhood."
White was killed Sunday night. Police say the night started with a fight involving 15 to 20 people when someone shot White in the chest.
Police found him lying in Melissa Sifuentes' driveway, and later died at the hospital.
"I was surprised because I've never heard of anything happening like that since I've been in this area," said Maurita Wilson.
The latest violence is the 10th homicide in Springfield this year, and is a wake-up call for residents with kids who call this neighborhood home.
"It is frightening because as we were walking down we made a little joke about maybe we shouldn't walk this way because, you know it's bad."
Police are now questioning witnesses hoping to track down whoever pulled the trigger.
Meanwhile, White leaves behind 5 kids, 12 brothers and sisters, and friends who are mourning his loss.
"It is very difficult and just seeing his family and the hardship they're going through, I wish that upon nobody," Sifuentes added.
So far no arrests have been made but we will continue to follow this story on air and on our website.
