NAPLES, Fla. (WBBH) - An Indiana family stuck in a Naples hospital for nearly a month is headed home. Maddie Strauss fell ill with pneumonia and was put on a ventilator after she had breathing problems.
The family wanted to go back home, but doctors say the only way Maddie could leave was by an air ambulance - something the family's insurance wouldn't cover.
After we ran a story on the Strauss family Saturday night - donations poured in.
Tuesday morning, the family's dream came true.
"I'm speechless this is amazing," said Maddie's step-father, David Strauss.
The non-profit air ambulance - Grace on Wings - is bringing Maddie home.
