NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - As flu activity continues to rise in Massachusetts, more employers are asking workers to think twice before coming in sick. So, with all this recent concern, how do you know when to stay home?
Medical experts say that having a fever is the first sign that you shouldn't go to work. Other things to take into account are how well you can carry out your work duties if you're sick, and whether you taking medication that can impair your judgment.
Western Massachusetts residents told 22News that there are other factors to take into consideration as well.
"Depends on the work environment, too. You know, if you are working inside, it's probably a good reason to stay home. Because there is more people, closer quarters to infect people," Jonathan Valente of Springfield said.
"I have seen parents take kids to daycare when they are sick, and I think they should stay home," Monica Snape of Easthampton said. "Limit the cases."
Experts say you are most contagious during the first two days after the symptoms start.
