SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The 22News I-Team has obtained the list of people the Massachusetts Gaming Commission is currently doing background investigations on.
MGM Springfield, under the name Blue Tarp Redevelopment, has people on its list including some who are or were involved with Palmer Renewable Energy, a company suing the city of Springfield to reverse a city council decision on a revoked permit.
David Callahan and Vincent Barletta were both involved in that project. Callahan and Barletta are both on MGM's list for background checks.
The Springfield city council in 2011 revoked a permit for a wood-burning biomass plant run by Palmer Renewable Energy.
Springfield City Councilor John Lysak told the 22News I-Team he believes the lawsuit, filed and first reported by 22News in June 2011 is still pending.
The 22News I-Team has requested information from MGM about Callahan's and Barletta's financial interest and expect to hear back by Monday.
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission background checks will determine suitability for each casino company. If a person or LLC. is found unsuitable, Massachusetts Gaming Commissioner Stephen Crosby has told 22News the company can replace them with another investor or their own money.
