PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) - Palmer is set to sign host agreement with Mohegan Sun on or by August 28th.
The 22News I-Team discovered that Mohegan Sun and Palmer representatives plan to announce and sign their host community agreement on or by Wednesday, August 28th. At that time the document would become public and the clock would start ticking to hold a town wide referendum.
The Town Council would then have the opportunity to approve a date for a referendum on Tuesday September 3rd.
Mohegan Sun would have to hold a referendum 60 to 90 days after the agreement is signed. If it is signed on August 28th, the vote would have to be held between October 28th and November 27th. A November 5th vote on the day of the general election could be a strong possibility.
This is the newest information about the host agreement. Town Manager Charlie Blanchard has told 22News the agreement would be finalized in a week or two back on July 7th. The "week or so" timeframe has been the go-to answer since then.
