CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Citizens Against Casino Gaming contends that supporters of a casino in Springfield have placed signs on tree belts and other public property, a violation of the city's sign ordinance.
According to George Slyva, assistant clerk at the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court for Suffolk County, the papers were filed on Monday, July 8 and served to the city on Monday as well. The court is waiting for the city to respond.
The 22News I-Team has contacted Springfield City Solicitor Edward Pikula for comment. He sent us the following statement:
"Yes. A lawsuit was filed yesterday (Monday) and it is in the process of being reviewed so that a response can be submitted to the court. The lawsuit alleges that signs were improperly placed, and a copy of the complaint has been provided to the City's Code Enforcement Department for inspection and appropriate follow up action."
