22 people rescued from sinking boat on Connecticut River

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - At least a dozen people were rescued from a sinking boat on the Connecticut River Tuesday evening.

Dennis Leger of the Springfield Fire Department told 22News crews were called to the Connecticut River in the area of the North End Bridge for a sinking dragon boat with 22 people on board around 7:05 p.m.

Leger said the boat suffered a cracked hull after striking a rock.

Firefighters used two boats to shuttle the people to shore. Crews from the Agawam Fire Department assisted with one boat.

Leger said no injuries were reported.
