No criminal charges sought in connection to accidental civilian shooting in Athol

ATHOL, Mass. (WWLP) - No criminal charges will be sought in connection to the accidental May 30 civilian shooting in Athol.

According to Northwestern District Attorney's Office Spokesperson Mary Carey, state police connected to the Northwestern District Attorney's Office conducted an investigation into the shooting of a civilian observer during an Athol Police Department firearms training.

Carey said the victim was treated and released from a nearby hospital after he sustained a non-life-threatening wound to his upper rear leg area.

The investigation concluded the incident was accidental in nature.
