SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Friends and family of Mayor Domenic Sarno said their final goodbyes to his mother Monday.
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Springfield was filled with people paying their respects to the family of Clara Sarno.
She died after a long illness on Friday morning.
Sarno is survived by her husband, her three children, grandchildren, and many other relatives.
Many people attended her wake at the Forastiere Funeral Home Sunday.
Local police escorted Clara Sarno to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Springfield. Many people paid their respects, including Governor Charlie Baker.
People who knew her told 22News she was a "lovely woman."
"I found her to be a very wonderful person a person that cared about the city and her and her husband Al have done so much for the City of Springfield," said William Foley of Springfield.
According to her obituary, she was born in Italy before coming to the United States in 1960.
She owned her own tailor shop in Springfield called Clara's alterations.
"Always caring and told ya how it was," Sandra Vella of Springfield told 22News. "She was just delightful. We're going to miss her very much."

Monday's funeral mass started at 10 a.m. and was followed by a private burial.
