Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito joins conversation on preventing sexual violence

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito was in Springfield Thursday discussing strategies to prevent sexual assault and domestic violence.

Lt. Gov. Polito was at the YMCA in Springfield, which provides help and resources for women in crisis.

The Lieutenant Governor was joined by Health and Human Services Director Marylou Sudders in leading the conversation on preventing sexual violence.

Lt. Gov. Polito has been visiting communities across Massachusetts to hear from people, and discuss practices the state could put in place to prevent domestic violence.

"Really understand in communities like this, what prevention strategies work, how can we target the appropriate messages to youth?" Lt. Gov. Polito asked. "Starting perhaps in middle school, high school, and preparing them for workplaces. Preparing them for college campuses."

Polito said groups will also be looking at ways technology can be used to better target their prevention message to young people.
