Springfield firefighters called to fire on King Street

King Street is in the Old Hill neighborhood

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Fire crews worked to put out an electrical fire in Springfield's Old Hill neighborhood Thursday night.

Springfield firefighters were called to a fire at TNT Food Stop variety store on King Street around 9 p.m.

Springfield firefighters, and members of the arson and bomb squad, were all on site trying to figure out what caused the convenience store fire.

According to Springfield Fire Department Spokesman Dennis Leger, the store was on fire and crews immediately starting putting the flames out.

Leger told 22News, an excess of items in the store made it difficult for firefighters to find where the fire started.

No one was inside the store at the time of fire and no one was hurt.

According to both Leger and Deputy Director of Code Enforcement Dave Cotter, the building appears to be heavily damaged by the fire.

Cotter told 22News, once firefighters leave, he'll return to access the damage and determine if the building should be condemned.
