Proposed Belchertown solar farm receiving push back from residents

BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (WWLP) - Some Belchertown residents are upset over a proposed solar farm being built in their backyards.

A neighbor that has lived on North Street for more than two decades told 22News, renewable energy is great, but not when it disturbs wildlife.

A proposed solar farm on North Street in Belchertown is receiving some pushback.

22News contacted the Town Hall and was told private New York-based equity firm, Syncarpha, are the developers.

Based on their website, the company is dedicated to developing, owning and operating commercial and utility-scale solar energy systems throughout the United States and Canada.

"But to utterly destroy an environment, which will not bounce back, if the solar panels are ever pulled out of there; it would be a tragedy, that land is lost forever," said Jack Tulloss of Belchertown.

A packet sent from developers Syncarpha shows the area where being considered takes up about large-scale solar facility will be, takes up about 100 acres.

The area is home to deer, bears, exotic mushrooms and other wildlife.

Residents are invited to a public meeting Thursday night that starts at 6:00 p.m., at the VFW Post on Pelham Road. Residents will be able to ask questions, hear from the developers and voice concerns

22News contacted Syncarpha and Cowles to see if they own the land. As of news time, still no word.
