LEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The town of Lee will soon begin its search for a new police chief. Joseph Buffis was fired from the position by the Board of Selectmen Tuesday night during a heated meeting.
Buffis is currently the subject of a federal investigation for money laundering but that was not the reason for his firing.
The board terminated his contract for charging his family's cell phone plan to the town.
Buffis lawyer, Lori Levinson, said they are planning an appeal.
"I know that there will be some recourse, I just don't know what it is at this point, and obviously we will be exploring what recourse there is."
The search for a new chief could begin as soon as next week.
