FLORIDA, Mass. (WWLP) - Parts of a wind farm project on the border of Franklin and Berkshire Counties has been traveling up the Mass Pike in the past few weeks.
The Hoosac Wind Power Project is taking shape in the Berkshire County town of Florida and Franklin County town of Monroe.
By the end of 2012, 19 wind turbines will produce enough power for about 6,000 homes.
Instead of paying property taxes to the towns, the developer, Iberdrola Renewables , has pledged about $257,000 in annual payments.
The project created 100 temporary construction jobs and will create three to five permanent jobs.
Some residents told 22News that they are excited to be leading the way for renewable energy, but others say the turbines ruin the view in the rural area.
22News reporter Elysia Rodriguez is in Berkshire County, and will have reaction on 22News starting at 5.
