OTIS, Mass. (WWLP) - The name of a young man whose lifeless body was pulled from the Otis Reservoir has been released.
Fred Lantz, spokesperson for Berkshire County District Attorney David Capeless, notified 22News that Derrick J. Vonberg, Jr., 22, of East Otis, was the victim of an accidental drowning Sunday at the reservoir.
Ninety people helped in the search for Vonberg on Sunday, after Police Chief Roberta Sarnacki said the victim jumped from a boat on the reservoir to go swimming.
Lantz says that the victim's father, Derrick J. Vonberg, Sr., had tried to save his son after he went under water, but he was unsuccessful. The elder Vonberg was pulled from the reservoir by a boater who rushed over to help.
The body of Derrick Vonberg, Jr. was recovered on Tuesday afternoon.
