PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Pittsfield police have found the body of a missing swimmer on the Housatonic River.
Police have confirmed that the body is the swimmer and is dead, but they have not been able to get to the body to pull it out of the water.
Sgt. Matthew Hill told 22News earlier that the swimmer, a man believed to be about 18 years old, had been swimming near the area of Mill Street just before noon time, when he became stuck in a whirlpool.
Hill said that at this time, they do not know whether the he had been pulled under, or whether he got stuck behind a nearby flood control chute.
Police are used underwater cameras as part of their search.
