DALTON, Mass. (WWLP) - A soldier from Berkshire County has been killed in action in Afghanistan.
Army Specialist Mitchell Daehling of Dalton was one of three U.S. soldiers killed in an improvised explosive device attack on Tuesday.
A 2006 graduate of Wahconah Regional High School in Dalton, Daehling was born in Wyoming and moved to the Berkshires in the early 2000's. He leaves behind a wife, Samantha, who he married last June.
Daehling had been stationed at Fort Bliss in Texas.
Congressman Richard Neal (D-Springfield), who represents Dalton, expressed sympathy to Daehling's family in a statement sent to 22News.
"Specialist Daehling was a brave young man who represented the best of America, and he will remain in my thoughts and prayers," Neal said in a statement sent to 22News.
Funeral arrangements are currently being made, but have not yet been finalized.
