ASHFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - State Police have opened one lane of Route 112 while they investigate a serious accident in the Franklin County town of Ashfield.
State Police Sgt. Steven Jankowski told 22News that three people were injured in the crash near the intersection of Routes 112 and 116, not far from the Sanderson Academy.
Sgt. Jankowski told 22News that one of the victims was trapped, and that Ashfield rescue personnel had to use the "jaws of life" to free the victim from the wreckage.
Three victims were taken to the hospital. The State Police Accident Reconstruction Team has been called in to help determine the cause of the crash.
22News shot video of a wrecked pickup truck and a passenger vehicle. Both had sustained extensive damage. It's possible the vehicles collided head-on around 6:00 PM Tuesday.
Sgt. Jankowski did not know if weather was a contributing factor to the crash, but he did say the roads are very icy.
