GREENFIELD, Mass (WWLP) - Two European experts on renewable energy, Dr. Andreas Weig, of Germany, and Dirk Vansintjan, of Belgium, were at Greenfield Community College Wednesday afternoon to give some insight on how to make a transition into a renewable energy economy.
It is viewed as a bottom-up approach. Allowing towns and their residents to pool their energy resources and become more self-sufficient using shared energy or for example wind turbines. But of course, the experts at hand said first you have to have a legal framework in place between electric companies, municipalities and policy makers in the private sector.
"By studing these best practices in Europe you can avoid the mistakes we made in Europe," Dirk Vansintjan of Ecopower from Belgium said.
The economic benefits to this regional development were expressed as well, for the local job growth that these new approaches could generate.
