GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Looking for work can be discouraging, but most people 22News spoke with today said it just gets harder as you get older.
The poll conducted by the Associated Press NORC Center said more than half of older job hunters said their search was moderately or very difficult over the last five years.
More than 40 percent said potential employers were concerned about their age. Now even though the overall unemployment rate is lower for older people, long-term unemployment is higher.
Jane Myers of Hawley, who has been out of work for a couple months told 22News that she worries her age will keep her from finding another job.
"I think it is a little harder. I went back to grad school and I felt that sometimes my professors didn't really mentor me because I was older and experienced so I didn't have some of the same opportunities as the younger people had."
However, Ms. Myers says she's maintaining a positive outlook. She said she's up for a job right now and is hopeful it works out.
