DEERFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - It has been a great year to be in the apple business, as good weather this year has brought an incredible crop at many area orchards.
Ben Clark has run Clarkdale Fruit Farms in Deerfield for many years. He told 22News that last year, they lost more than 50% of their apple crop due to an April frost.
This year, they have been making up for lost time with strong production.
"We're picking honey crisps, one of our most popular apples, and we have a huge crop this year," Clark said.
Another sign of a more fruitful growing season: Clark said that he intends to stay open until February selling cider, compared to having to close during December last year.
