GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Greenfield environmentalist is in the midst of a thirty day hunger strike to bring attention to issues surrounding Climate Change.
Douglas Wight is on his sixteenth day of his 30 day planned hunger strike.
He wants to get people involved in the issues surrounding Climate Change by getting 500 signs up. Those signs would explain ways to reduce your carbon footprint and help the environment. He also hopes the message will make a difference for climate change. Fortunately, with the extreme heat, many people are being kind and stopping by to give him a drink.
Douglas Wight told 22News, "It's becoming a real community event, even a regional event because I'm getting people from other towns that are making signs and stopping by for a conversation, so I'm getting a kick out of it. I'm loving it. I'm loving it, you know."
Elizabeth Oriel of Northampton said, "He's doing this, and he's just sitting here trying to educate people and he has a goal in terms of how many signs he wants to put up and I think it's fabulous."
On Sunday August 25th at the end of Doug's hunger strike, there will be a rally in the center of Greenfield.
