Boston, Mass (WWLP) - It was a historic comeback for the Boston Bruins Monday night, down three goals with 11 minutes to go in game seven against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
They managed to tie the game with seconds left and won in overtime 5-4.
The Bruins are now the first team in NHL history to win a game 7 after trailing by three goals in the third period, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Now fans are planning for the next time they take the ice for the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
The excitement of the game resonated among fans and fellow hockey players across the state
Zach Flaxman, of Shelburne Falls said, "It was awesome great comeback. Definitely thought it was over when it was 4-1 and was not expecting the comeback but miracles happen I guess so..."
Austin Urkiel played hockey for Greenfield High School for four years and now works at a local sporting goods store. He says it was one of the best games he has ever seen and expects fans to be coming in for their black and yellow Bruins apparel.
"I mean I definitely expect a ton of people coming in. I know all over Facebook and all over Twitter there were a ton of people talking about it last night. I expect to see the place booming by noon.
This Thursday the Boston Bruins will be facing the New York Rangers along with Henrick Lundqvist-considered one of the leagues best goaltenders around that hasn't let a puck get past him in the past two games he's had. But fans say they're looking forward to the matchup.
One man said, "Yea, getting the gear, getting the gear ready, friends coming through, you know having a little cookout."
