ORANGE, Mass. (WWLP) - State police have released the name of the suspect who was shot to death by troopers during a drug raid in eastern Franklin County Wednesday morning.
State Police spokesperson David Procopio notified 22News that Corey Navarette, 23, of Orange died after the incident at his 18 Mechanic Street home. The name of a second person hurt during the raid, a 25 year-old woman who lived with Navarette, is not being disclosed.
According to Procopio, members of the State Police STOP team were called to serve a search warrant at Navarette's second-floor apartment, as part of an investigation into the sale of Percoset and oxycodone. After they were inside, Navarette allegedly confronted the troopers with a gun, troopers returned fire, and Navarette was shot. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died.
The woman received an eye injury during the incident, was treated at the hospital, and has since been released.
The Northwestern District Attorney's Office is currently looking into whether the troopers' use of force was appropriate.
