SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Pioneer Valley Transit Authority reached a milestone on Thursday: the PVTA singled out Pat Wilkerson of Springfield as its 11 millionth rider during this fiscal year.
PVTA Administrator Mary McInnes honored Wilkerson at the downtown Springfield Harrison Avenue bus stop.
McInnes told 22News how she's hoping to attract what's called choice riders, people who might have two or more cars, to ride the bus. "Offer more frequent service. Our service is not as frequent. For example the MBTA, they have buses every 5-10 minutes. Ours is every half hour or so," she said.
The PVTA Administrator believes that the amenities of the proposed Union Station bus terminal, when it's projected to open in two years, will go a long way to attract choice riders.
