SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - At the end of Sunday, the 2013 Glendi Festival will be history, but the thousands who attended during the past three days will carry with them some pleasant memories.
Through the combination of Greek dancing, Greek food and Greek culture, Glendi attracted thousands to its festival behind the St. George Cathedral Cultural Center.
The Brodanan family of Amherst had never attended Glendi before. Plans to go last year fell through. They weren't about to let that happen again this year.
“We didn't want to miss it,” said the Brodanans. “We missed it last year, we heard a lot about it, we always wanted to come, we've been to other Greek festivals, and we just heard a lot about this one. So it would have been a shame if we missed it again this year.”
This year's Glendi, which in Greek means "celebration", reached a milestone. The tradition of sharing Greek culture through this event began 35 years ago.
