SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Four Springfield police officers were injured early Saturday morning when they went to stop a brawl in front of the Fat Cat Bar and Grill on Worthington Street.
Three officers were taken to a hospital; one officer was treated at the scene.
They are all expected to be okay.
Springfield Police Captain Cheryl Claprood told 22News it took about 20 officers to break up the fight.
The incident happened at around 2 o'clock Saturday morning.
At least nine arrests were made. Captain Claprood said they are all facing charges such as assault and battery on police officers.
This brawl comes just days after the City settled a lawsuit with club owners that will now allow clubs like Mardi Gras, Center Stage and Xstatic to offer entertainment until 2 a.m, instead of shutting off all music, TV's and dancing at 1 a.m.
Back in April Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno imposed the 1 a.m. curfew.
Bars without the proper permit had to shut off all entertainment at 1 even though they could stay open until 2.
Since that curfew went into effect, Springfield Police said they saw a 35 percent drop in calls coming from downtown between midnight and 3 a.m.
