HOLYOKE, Mass (WWLP) - After nine hours, firefighters were finally able to contain a 15 acre brush fire on Mt. Tom.
Holyoke Lt. Larry Cournoyer told 22News that the fire started around 11:30 Sunday morning, in the woods right off Christopher Clark Road, on the Holyoke/ Easthampton line.
Drivers on I-91 reported seeing the smoke for miles.
Firefighters struggled trying to put out the flames, since there were no hydrants in the area, Tanker trucks were called-in from Whately, Southampton and Westover Air Reserve Base.
The flames were finally contained around 8:30 Sunday night.
Overnight, firefighters monitored the area to make sure no other fires flare up.
