AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) - Residents gathered outside the Fire Department Headquarters to honor those who lost their lives in the September 11th attacks.
The mood was somber, people bowed their heads in reflection as the town paid tribute to those killed 12 years ago by the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington D.C and Pennsylvania.
Chief of the Agawam Fire Department told 22News this day means different things to different people. For him, it's especially important as a firefighter and having served in Afghanistan and Iraq as a member of the military.
"The way I remember is a lot different than a lot of people. Everyone was affected very differently by the events of September 11th. Regardless of how you choose to remember it and reflect on it, it's important to do so," said Chief Alan Sirois.
Chief Sirois, along with Reverend Earl Eisenbach, led this morning ceremony.
