CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - An inspiring story may earn an Agawam Army National Guardsman and his fiancé an all expenses paid wedding and honeymoon. The Westin Copley Place in Boston, together with FOX25 (WFXT-TV), are giving one deserving member of the United States Armed Forces a free wedding to take place on Veteran's Day.
25 year old Ryan McLane and 22 year old Taylor Lincoln are among the three finalist couples in the "Wedding to Remember" competition. The couple visited 22News on Wednesday afternoon. McLane said that 100 couples had originally competed. He believes the judges were impressed with Taylor's commitment against cancer.
"Her brother was diagnosed with a brain tumor 12 years ago, he was treated at Dana Farber and has since gone into remission. Taylor has started picking up the cause, and raised money for Dana Farber. In fact, while I was deployed this past year, we ran this program together," McLane said.
"Clearly it's very close to my heart," Lincoln said. "My brother spent a lot of time at Dana Farber. I met a lot of sick kids. I've always wanted to help."
Taylor said that she is so proud of Ryan being an Army National Guardsman.
She comes from the Worcester County town of Shrewsbury, and they met as students at UMass in Amherst.
The winning couple will be chosen by the number of votes they receive. Between now and September 26, you can cast one vote per computer per day for the Wedding to Remember on Veterans Day, November 11.
Taylor and Ryan had planned to marry next summer, but they said that they will gladly move up the date by a few months if they win.
