CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Police say a woman accused of holding up convenience stores was caught in the act and arrested.
Chicopee Police Detective Lt. Mark Higgins told 22News 25 year old Leigha Neiford was arrested Saturday night in West Springfield. Lt. Higgins said police there pulled her car over after getting a call that she tried to rob a convenience store in town.
She was charged for two robberies in Chicopee last week; one at the Pride Station on Burnett Road, and for a robbery caught on surveillance camera at the Shell Station on Grove Street.
The owner of the store told 22News he feels safer now that there has been an arrest. He said she took off with more than 300 dollars.
"I asked if she was kidding and she said I'm not kidding and I have a weapon also," said Demin Vyas. "I didn't want to see that weapon so I just opened the drawer
Neiford was also charged with possession of heroin. She is being held on $50,000 bail and will be in court Monday morning.
Additional charges are pending in Springfield and West Springfield.
