CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - 22News learned Monday that Chicopee Police officers allegedly took pictures of Amanda Plasse's body after she was found stabbed to death in her apartment almost two years ago.
Plasse's mother, Michelle Mathieson, did not know about these photos until Monday's announcement. "Something needs to be done about this," said Michelle.
Chicopee Police officers allegedly took photos of Amanda's mutilated body and showed those pictures to people not in the department.
Michelle Mathieson found it baffling. "I can't imagine. I can't imagine. Number 1, why with your personal cell phone would you be taking pictures of a murdered child? Number 2, sharing them."
20-year-old Amanda Plasse was found stabbed to death in her own apartment on School Street in downtown Chicopee in August of 2011. That was nearly 2 years ago.
Chicopee Mayor Michael Bissonnette has hired a special investigator to look into this incident. Some people said better late than never.
"We trust those people to take care of us," said Kimberly Bode of Chicopee. "If they are shady, I don't want them protecting me, and I think it's good that the mayor is going to stand up for that."
Linda Tanguay of Chicopee said, "That he's going to investigate this. I really am. I'm very proud of him."
Michelle is also looking into what she can do about those photos, but her priority is still the same. Find Amanda's killer.
Michelle said, "You know, we're not here to point fingers to who did what, as wrong as this is. It all comes down to there's a murderer walking around out there. Where is Amanda's justice?"
Michelle told 22News she has talked to lawyers about this incident, and she's still asking for the public's help to find out who murdered Amanda.
If you have any information on Plasse's murder, you are asked to call the Chicopee Police Detective Bureau at (413) 594-1730, or text "SOLVE" and your message to 274637.
