CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Back to school is one of the busiest shopping times of the year, but one survey suggests that parents may not spend as much this year.
Deloitte's annual back to school survey found consumers are more confident about the economy, but that doesn't mean they are willing to spend more.
Brenda Farris of Easthampton told 22News, "We're not spending as much, we are trying to be more conservative."
Michael Wondolowski of Westfield explained, "Everyone's got less money so it definitely impacts everyone across the board."
Parents plan to spend an average of 428 dollars on back to school shopping, which is down from 600 dollars last year.
Parents of college students plan to spend an average of more than 900 dollars.
