PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) - Dealing with staff shortages, the Palmer District Court has a backlog of cases it needs to hear.
Friday, the Governor's Council watched how the Palmer District Court operates and interviewed employees about staff shortages and case overloads. The Chief Justice of the Massachusetts District Court told 22News there is a backlog of cases in Palmer's court. A problem he hopes to solve by hiring support staff.
"I think if we all came back here six months from now the Palmer District Court would not have a backlog and would be current", says Chief Justice of the Massachusetts District Court, Paul LoConto.
"Our job is to highlight the deficiencies and make the case known to the legislature it's budget and now is the time to make the case", says Governor Councilor Mike Albano.
Chief Justice LoConto began his position in 2013, after serving 27 years on the bench as a judge.
