HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - The Black Friday shopping frenzy took the Holyoke Mall by storm just after midnight.
"It was a 30 minute wait just to get to the cash register", said Miranda Moisen of North Brookfield.
Customers were even lined-up outside hours before the doors even opened. They told 22News the freezing temperatures didn't even phase them.
"The deals are pretty good, so you might as well save some money if you can. Waiting in the cold is worth it to me", George Fiore of South Hadley told 22News.
Black Friday can be a very exhausting and overwhelming ordeal. Not everyone can deal with the lack of sleep and long lines.
"People get kind of pushy and rude sometimes so...be nice to everybody so you don't have to deal with it", advised Amie Petrie of Greenfield.
But many shoppers say it's something that everyone should experience at least once.
"It's like every girl's dream waking-up, and going shopping. No matter how early, you get to do shop till you drop", said Rachel Adams of Fitchburg.
One mother told 22News that Black Friday has become a fun tradition for her and her daughter; and they aren't the only ones who benefit from this one shopping day.
"Instead of spending $20 and getting nothing, we can spend $20 and get a $50 or $60 toy....It makes the kids really happy--and that's what it's all about for us", said Stephanie Choiniere of Greenfield.
Another special shopping day coming up is Cyber Monday. The National Retail Federation expects a much larger turnout for this online, compared to the shoppers who participate in Black Friday.
