AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) - Blood donors by the hundreds came out to help 19 year old Austin Harrington stay alive.
The Chez Josef banquet hall in Agawam became a Red Cross blood donation center on Saturday.
Doctors told the Chicopee Comprehensive high school senior last fall that his Gamma Globulin deficiency disorder has worsened. Austin's mom told 22News while giving blood how precarious her son's condition is.
"My son's life depends on blood donations. It takes one thousand blood donors to make one treatment Austin needs for the rest of his life and he's only 19 years old," Kristel Chouinard told 22News.
"I wanted to do it because it would help everyone else not just me personally. But help everyone out who needs blood," Austin said.
Austin had arranged Saturday's blood drive himself. The volume of blood donations will help him as well as others in serious need of blood.
As Austin's Mom put it, without blood donations, her son will not survive.
