AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) - Governor Patrick's administration wants bottle distributors to give redemption centers a penny more per container.
The fees have not been increased in 23 years.
State officials say the policy will boost recycling rates and help keep these redemption centers in business.
The owner of AAA bottle and can in Agawam told 22News he's skeptical the proposal will become a reality.
"I've been hearing this for a long time, I've been doing this 11 years now and nothing is changing and nothing will change. They used to give us grants for a while and then they took that away so right now we're back to what we were in the stone age," Russ Scalise said.
The house and senate have rejected proposals in the past saying curbside recycling programs are the way of the future.
