WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - West Springfield has reached an agreement with a suspended police captain. A disciplinary hearing lasted for more than two hours Friday afternoon.
Mayor Greg Neffinger only said that the town has reached a resolution with Captain Daniel O'Brien. Both parties said they are pleased with the agreement.
O'Brien has been suspended with pay for close to two years. He's accused of six instances of police misconduct, including taping a woman's mouth shut in September 2011. O'Brien reflected on his situation after the hearing.
"I was a pessimist, now I'm an optimist. It's been very good. Very good for me to have to raise my family in the middle of something and show them that life takes turns, it's been very good," said Captain O'Brien.
O'Brien will remain suspended with pay until the details of this agreement are finalized next week. He has been with the West Springfield police department for more than 25 years.
