HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - It's free, it takes only a few minutes, and it could save your child's life.
The Holyoke Fire Department is one of many around the area that offer free child safety seat inspections and installations. Properly-installed safety seats reduce deaths by 71% for infants.
Holyoke City Councilors Todd and Brenna McGee had their car seats installed at fire headquarters on Monday.
'It's definitely a relief knowing that when we do leave the hospital for the first time, the baby will safe in the car," Brenna McGee said.
Child safety coordinator Mandi Summers says that it's easy for parents to get confused about proper installation.
"There are so many types of cars and types of car seats, and the instructions can get a little confusing, so it's a good idea to come in and check just to make sure they're in right," she said.
If you would like help installing your car seats, or would like to check to make sure they are in properly, call your local fire department for details on free programs in your area.
