SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Springfield Casino Site Committee will make a recommendation Tuesday to S pringfield Mayor Domenic Sarno to only have one developer end up on the casino referendum ballot in June.
Right now, Mayor Sarno is negotiating host agreements with both MGM and Penn National. But Springfield City Council President Jimmy Ferrera told 22News ultimately the City should negotiate an agreement with only one of those two developers.
The Site Committee did not say which developer or site they liked better. Ferrera said that decision for the Mayor to make. But he said having only one developer on the ballot will be better for Springfield because two other developers are vying for the same western Massachusetts casino license. Hard Rock in West Springfield and Mohegan in Palmer.
Ferrera also said having only one developer on the ballot is also what both developers want.
"Both companies have indicated when they came before our committee and Ciyt Council that they preferred to have selected one. Kevin Kennedy in the beginning had indicated that one should be selected," Ferrara told 22News.
