SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Springfield Casino Site Committee is meeting Wednesday night for the first time since voters approved the host community agreement.
The meeting started at 5 o'clock with a public speak out session at Springfield City Hall.
The Casino Site Committee will decide what their role will be going forward now that Springfield voters have approved the host agreement.
The Site Committee was formed a little over a year ago when MGM first expressed its interest in building a resort casino in the South End.
Committee members, which includes City Councilors, residents, and business owners, have been meeting once a month to study the proposal and to educate Springfield residents about the pros and cons of a casino.
Wednesday night they'll discuss how else they can help the residents and the Gaming Commission as the casino selection process continues to move forward.
According to Springfield City Council President Jimmy Ferrera, "Whatever information that we can collect to help the Gaming Commission better understand concerns here in Springfield, we are going to do."
MGM will file a Phase 2 application to the Mass. Gaming Commission by the end of this year. That's a complete site-specific application.
