CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Victims of vandalism often call the police after finding graffiti on their property, but over the weekend, it was the Chicopee police themselves who were the victims of vandals. Curse words and racial slurs have been spray-painted all over the front of the department's Willimansett substation on Chicopee Street.
The building's doors, windows, and even the substation's sign have all been covered in blue, spray-painted obscenity.
Chicopee Police Detective James Tisdell told 22News that the damage was discovered on Saturday. He said the incident remains under investigation, and would not release any information on possible suspects.
Police are looking into the cause of the vandalism just as officers are getting ready for National Night Out - a drug and crime prevention program that connects police officers with members of the community. Chicopee police are participating on Monday night from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Sarah Jane Sherman Park on Meadow Street. Other communities will be hosting activities on Tuesday night.
