For the past 33 years, Chicopee’s Moose Lodge has been supporting Springfield’s Shriners Hospital.
On Sunday, the organization hosted a fundraiser to help young patients. Those who attended the annual car show got a chance to do more than just admire some sweet rides.
“Oh, it’s good. It’s to keep the hospital going and to keep helping families in the future. We know a few how have had children at Shriners Hospital in the past,” said Dan Smith of Ludlow.
For 14-year-old Cameron Genie, who volunteers at hospital events, the cause behind the fundraiser hits close to home.
“When one my family members ends up going to the hospital. It’s kind of like you don’t know what’s going to happen. And you get kind of nervous,” said Genie; whose cousin suffered from leukemia.
Gordon MacDonald has helped raise money for the Shriners Hospital for more than two years. On Sunday, he joined his community.
“It’s a worthy cause. Kids can get treated for nothing if need be,” said MacDonald who’s also a tour guide at the hospital.
