SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Springfield City Council has delayed a casino vote.
A vote to authorize the city's host community agreement with MGM was on the city council agenda. City Council President Jimmy Ferrera invoked rule 20, which stops any debate. Some councilors were not happy with the interpretation of that rule.
Ferrera told 22News this will allow the council time to ask the city auditor questions they have about the host agreement. "The mayor has taken his time, the city council needs to take our time. We need to make sure that we get this right. We need to make sure this document is correct, that its good for the city of Springfield. What's the rush?"
A special meeting will be held Friday at 7:00PM to try and get answers to some of these questions.
