SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - To try and take the edge off these dog days of summer, the city of Springfield will open Cooling Centers Saturday, July 6th.
The cooling centers will be at some of the city's Libraries:
- Forest Park Branch Library: 380 Belmont Ave.- 11:00 A.M.-3:00 P.M.
- Liberty Street Branch Library: 773 Liberty St.- 11:00 A.M.-3:00 P.M.
- Indian Orchard Branch Library: 44 Oak St.- 11:00 A.M.-3:00 P.M.
- Sixteen Acres Branch Library: 1187 Parker St.- 11:00 A.M.-3:00 P.M.
Also, other places that you can escape the heat include the mall, a movie theater, a public pool or a spray park.
Many people find these temperatures oppressive, but 22News talked to some people who said they like it hot and sticky.
"Oh yeah I like this kind of weather because we came from this kind of weather in Puerto Rico. It's like this all the time," said David Toledo of Springfield.
Joel Hernandez of Springfield said, "We were waiting for this. I thought summer was not going to come this year. For a couple of days it was cold when it's supposed to be hot."
Experts say if you absolutely have to venture outside in this heat, try and avoid the hottest hours of the day and only go out in the early morning or late evening.
