HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - The rain-swollen Connecticut River is roaring over the Holyoke Dam.
Water is spilling over the top of the entire length of the Dam which generates electricity for Holyoke Gas and Electric.
This is an unusual sight for long-time river watchers, including Steve Bigelow of South Hadley, who's been keeping an eye on the river for more than four decades.
Bigelow told 22News this is a first. "Not with just rain water. No. No. Totally high from rain water. Never seen it like this. Good old mother nature."
The fast moving water is also dragging tree logs and other debris downstream, adding to the obstacles along the banks, making for very tricky navigation both on the water, and on land near the water's edge.
