HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - May is Military Appreciation Month, and it is also American Nursing Home Month. The two were brought together Thursday at the Holyoke Soldiers' Home .
It was Red, White, and Blue Day at the home, and a parade of patients, each carrying an American Flag, enjoyed a special ceremony Thursday morning in the courtyard.
The flag raising marked a proud day for the veterans there. With an average age of 85, many of these retired servicemen and servicewomen had fought in World War II or the Korean War.
Korea vet Bob Turner of Shelburne Falls told 22News that he appreciates the care he receives at the Holyoke Soldiers' Home.
"I really appreciate what they've done for me, and I'd do it all again," Turner said.
The parade and courtyard ceremony were just the latest in a week-long series of events at the Holyoke Soldiers' Home.
