EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - The town of East Longmeadow has taken the first step to fill two vacancies on the Board of Selectmen.
In a special preliminary election, a field of four candidates was narrowed down to two.
Peter Punderson and Angela Thorpe were the two top vote getters, and will run against each other in a special election next month. The winner of that election will fill the remainder of the term for retired selectmen Jim Driscoll through April of next year, roughly four months.
There will also be another special election on that ballot on December 18th in East longmeadow. That contest will be to fill the remainder of of Enrico "Jack" Villamaino's term.
Villamaino resigned amid an election fraud scandal this Summer. He is awaiting trial.
Voter turnout was 14%.
