CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - If you live near Westover Air Reserve Base, you may notice some increased noise over the next six months.
Starting July 23, F-15 jets from the 104th Fighter Wing will move from their home at Barnes Air National Guard Base in Westfield to nearby Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee. The move is due to a runway repair project at Barnes , and about 14 of the jets will fly out of Westover during that time.
The fighter planes are scheduled to fly about twice a day.
Col. Steven Vautrain, 439th Airlift Wing Commander at Westover, said that they are happy to help.
"We're pleased we can help our Guard brothers and sisters in maintaining continuity with their vital air defense mission role," Vautrain said in a news release sent to 22News.
Some of the other F-15 aircraft will fly out of Otis Air National Guard Base on Cape Cod, so that they can maintain their 24-hour alert missions.
