SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Attention Facebook users: the social network has a new tool that is helping advertisers directly target you, based on your offline spending history.
Bloomberg says that the tool associates what Facebook already knows about your friends and certain "likes", with third-party data from other websites you visit. This includes email lists you sign-up for and the way you spend your money both on and offline.
This latest change is causing some users to feel uneasy, while others seem unfazed by it.
"If you go on, say Target.com, it'll pop-up on Facebook: 'Oh, look at this at Target,' so it's just kind of annoying," Kayla Desmaris of Brimfield said.
Facebook said that it isn't using location data from smartphones to target ads.
The company has created a program that collects anonymous data between itself and its partners.
